The music producer’s close friend, Imad Handi, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement of his own: “It is with great sadness that I can confirm that David Gest has died today.
“David was truly larger than life. He was not just a huge talent and a dear friend but a showbiz icon.
“I know he will be missed by millions of fans around the world, and particularly in Britain, who came to love his charm and blistering one-liners.
"If I may steal the words of one eminent critic, David was a natural star and a genuine celebrity. I will miss him desperately.”
Gest is perhaps best known for being a childhood friend of Michael Jackson, who also went on to marry to Liza Minnelli, but sadly they officially divorced in 2007.
The reality star appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in January of this year, but left the house (and the series) on medical grounds.
Rather eerily, his fellow housemate Tiffany Pollard announced that David, 62, was “dead” at the time, following a misunderstanding with Angie Bowie regarding David Bowie’s death.
David was last photographed looking well while partying with former CBB housemates Kristina Rhianoff and Nancy Dell’Olio in late February.
The American star was set to begin his UK tour of the musical show ‘David Gest Is Not Dead, But Alive With Soul’ in July.
His death is currently being treated as unexplained.
Rest in peace David Gest (May 11, 1953 – April 12, 2016).
