She caused controversy when she was photographed carrying a Koran on the first day of her community service at a New York children’s centre.

The images set in motion worldwide speculation the Catholic-born actress had converted to Islam, but she chose to remain silent on the matter.

Now, speaking about the photographs for the first time, Lohan, below, has confirmed she is studying the religion.

She told The Sun: “I’m a very spiritual person and I’m really open to learning.

“America has portrayed holding a Koran in such a different way to what it actually is. We all believe in something and at the end of the day it all ties to a god or a spiritual adviser.”

Lohan, 29, isn’t alone in her change of beliefs as her little sister Ali has turned to Buddhism.

The actress added: “We all have a similar belief in whatever it may be personally.

“My sister is Buddhist but she is still interested in learning other things from me. It’s good to be open-minded.”

Lohan, above partying in 2014, would not be the first celeb to convert to Islam if she decided to go that way.

Janet Jackson, Cat Stevens, below and now known as Yusuf Islam, Jemima Khan and Cassius Clay have all turned to the religion.

Lohan added she is struggling to finish the holy book though.
