Ever since the first trailer of Sarbjit has released, people cannot stop raving about the gut-wrenching story and are all praises for the entire crew of the movie who has worked on the movie.

The film is based on the life of a villager Sarbjit Singh, who under the influence of alcohol, crossed the border and strayed into Pakistan, and how his sister Dalbir Kaur struggles to get him out of the prison.

Sarbjit was considered to be an agent by the Pakistan officials and was in jail for almost 23 years, before he was killed by the inmates. And while many people had signed the petition to free Sarbjit back then, not many are aware that actor Salman Khan too had a crucial role in trying to free the innocent man. According to a leading daily, Dalbir along with Sarbjit’s daughters had met Salman in 2012 to help them secure release of Sarbjit. In fact, an emotional Salman had even tweeted about it and was longing to launch his support for the release. He had initiated an online campaign urging people to sign the petition.

Khan had tweeted, “Requesting the people of Pakistan to support me to help free Sarabjit who has been in prison since 30 years. Please… Allah ka vasta. Help me, help her (Dalbir). It’s a personal request to all of you in Pakistan to send Sarabjit back to his family in Punjab. Hope you find it in your hearts to help and to people from all over the world. Thanks for your support. Am planning an online petition. It would be the most amazing gesture, to send Sarabjit back to his family after 30 years. Hope you support me like it’s your own cause. Be a part of one family’s happiness. Wanted to tweet this for the longest time, saw a pic of Sarabjit’s sister, it killed me. Felt really sad for her."
