Harry Potter fans set for scramble to join JK Rowling at her West End play

Harry Potter fans hoping to get the chance to join JK Rowling for a gala showing of her upcoming West End play are expected to dash for tickets later.

The author will introduce a performance of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child on September 18, tickets for which will be auctioned to raise money for her charity, Lumos.

The play will be the first time the wizard has been portrayed on stage, with the storyline following Harry as an “overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children”.

Previews begin in June followed by a world premiere in July. The two-part play is intended to be seen on the same day – as a matinee and evening performance – or on consecutive nights.

Organisers of the gala performance say every penny will go to the charity’s Families Not Orphanages Fund and directly help children around the world to leave orphanages and return to a family life.

Georgette Mulheir, chief executive of Lumos, said: “This special gala performance is not only a wonderful opportunity for fans to see the play but it will help raise awareness of the vulnerable, voiceless children living in orphanages around the world and play its part in helping to get them home and back to a loving family, where they belong.”
