Filmmaker Lav Diaz has proven that he is as good at making short films as long ones, when his short "Ang Araw Bago Ang Wakas" won the Principal Prize at the 62nd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen recently.

According to PEP News, the director, who previously won the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize at the 66th Berlinale for "Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis", won the latest award in Germany yet again, at the event held in Oberhausen on 10 May.

The 16-minute short beat two other films, Laure Prouvost's "If It Was" (France) and Sally Tykka's "Retrospective" (Finland), and was praised for its "political urgency" and its "elaborate and succinct" presentation.

The award came with a monetary price of 4,000 Euros.

Diaz's last award-winning movie, "Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis", which has a duration of eight hours and five minutes, was released in selected cinemas in Philippines last March.
