Jaclyn Jose wins Cannes' Best Actress
The actress, who was honoured with the accolade for her role as a mother who was forced to sell drugs to survive in Brillante Mendoza's "Ma' Rosa", admitted that she was surprised when her name was announced as the winner.
"I just went to have the red carpet walk with my daughter [Andi Eigenmann], my real-life daughter and my daughter who is also in the movie," said Jose, who brought her daughter on stage with her.
She added, "To Cannes, thank you so much, thank you to the jury, thank you that you liked our film."
Jose beat other big names who were nominated in the category, including Charlize Theron and Cannes darling, Marion Cotillard.
According to its director, "Ma' Rosa" is based on a true story of a woman who is ready to do anything to buy her freedom from corrupt police.
Celebrity friends have also congratulated the actress for her victory.
Daughter Andi wrote on Twitter, "My very own mother, to be the first ever Filipino to win the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival!"
Jose's other co-star, Maria Isabel Lopez, wrote, "Congrats [Jaclyn Jose] [Cannes Best Actress]. You make us all Soo proud! Long live Philippine Cinema!"
Eigenmann's boyfriend, Jake Ejercito, also posted, "Congratulations to Tita Jane, Ms. Jaclyn Jose, for her well-deserved win as best actress at Cannes! Your talent has always been world class!"
